2013: my year!

Hi class! Today I’m very happy to write on my blog because this is the last post of year!

Answering to the question “have you had a good year?” I immediately answer that this year was the most wonderful year of my life!!!

It wasn’t just a good year related with academic stuff; it was a year full of joys and happy moments in my personal life. The beginning of the year was very nice for me, first I started a relationship with a friend and now we are a very happy couple, during the summer we travelled a lot and we visit many beautiful places like San Pedro de Atacama and Chiloe, so my summer was perfect!.

Other thing that made this year MY YEAR was that I had very good grades in all my courses and that was an achievement for me.

A situation that didn’t go so well was that a very close friend of mine lost his mother because of brain cancer, and that hit us all very hard. I think that was only thing that eclipsed this good year.

I had a couple of projects and ideas that I wanted to do and I couldn’t set during this year, one of those things was that I wanted to learn how to drive and travel more.

Usually, on this period of the year I’m praying for year ending, but this year I’m so happy that I don’t want to finish it yet!

I hope you all have a good end of the year!

My best friend ❤

Hi bloggers!

Today I want to talk about friendship in general and my best friend. I choose to talk about this above “My worst enemy” because really I don’t have enemies, in fact I don’t even dislike someone.

I love to meet people and make some new friends, I think I’m a friendly person because it’s easy to me make friends in many situations, I mean, not everybody that I know I already consider that person my friend, but meeting people is a thing that I enjoy to do and I think that I have a good relationship with people in general (I hope that this feeling to be mutual xD).

My best friend is Javi, she is my very best friend since we were at 8th I think we had around 10 years old when we met for first time, and from that moment on we were inseparable. When I talk about my best friend I remember that Queen’s song “You’re my best friend” it’s a very sentimental song but it really reflects most of my feelings for her and our friendship, I value that she is very true and loyal with me even though I’m a messy person and I always forget to call or things like that.

Last year I was very depressed because I broke up with my boyfriend in that moment and Javi listened my story for thousand times and she was very important to me because she always was supporting me and she was the best friend that I ever had =)

I love my friends!!! <3

GREEEEEN

Hi class!

This week we have to talk about environment and all green stuff.

This trendy topic on this days. Been green it´s good, we all know that and that it’s not new but I feel that been “green” had lost the original sense, I mean “if you are not a vegan you hate nature” comments like that are very often listen when people talk about this matter.

I think people learn environmentally friendly practices when they see that other people is committed with that, for example if I see my friend doing recycling very committed with that, I’ll feel like I want to do recycling too.

I don’t consider myself a real Eco-Hero, I don’t do big things about environment but I contribute with little things like no throwing papers or waste to the street, if I have some waste I rather to save it in my bag and then throw it to the wastepaper bin. Other thing that I do to contribute with environment is that I don’t have a car but I love walking, and every time I can if I have to go out near of my house I prefer my legs instead using bus to go some places.

When I was younger, I joined to Greenpeace because one day a guy got close to me and he started talking to me about what they do and I feel very bad because in that until that time I never did anything for environment, so I decide that if I could contribute with something for the cause I had to do it and I paid basis monthly for about 2 years until I realize that I was short of money.

that's a little about my green history.

I love NY

Hi class!

Today I want to talk about a place that I always wanted to visit, but these days it has become very important place for me. My mother since we were little has told us that her dream is spend Christmas in New York, so I’ve always wanted to make her dream true.

United States is not my favorite country in the world but New York is a place that I like to visit very much, I like New York for a lot of reasons, my dream is spend Christmas but this is a city that I would like to visit in anytime of the year, I like that is a cosmopolitan city, and I can meet people of all over the world.

The main reason because we want to spend Christmas there is the snow. I would like to do ice skating, make snowmen with a carrot and a scarf just like in movies... speaking of movies, have you seen Home Alone 2 with Macaulay Culkin? That movie has all that I want in Christmas (except the part of thieves xD)

I would like to visit a lot of places there but if I have to choose I’d say take a walk through Central Park, visit Manhattan, Chinatown, go to the museums MoMA, Met, and take pictures in Time Square or in Statue of Liberty, among other places.

I would like to live there but for period of time, then when I finish the things I want to do there, I’d go back to Chile because I don’t like much lifestyle that American people has.

Animals and pets

Hello everybody!

Today I’m talking animals. I like animals, like most people but I don’t know if I consider myself an animal lover. I love dogs and wild animals, but I’m a scary person and I fear many animals, I don't like rats, hamsters and all those furry creatures. When I was a kid I had a dog called Rupert (Like Rupert el bacalao xD) and it was the best partner. Now I don’t have any pets because I live in a little flat so I don’t have much space and my sister don’t let me have pets in our apartment.

I don’t like any animal to suffer, and I believe in medical research but I think sometimes it’s necessary use animals for medical research and test. Some animalist are against that but I don’t know how investigators can do their job if they can’t proof it before using new medical techniques and medicaments in humans.

I have never been bitten by a dog o any animal, and I hope that never happens to me. Respect to the question if I think that dogs should be banned o muzzled, my position to that is relative because some people train their dogs to attack and bite to protect their houses and then they leave them loose in parks and in that case I think they have to muzzle their dogs to protect children.

If I could be an animal I’d choose to be any feline. I think they are great, fast, and incredibly beautiful. I like lions because they are fierce, tigers are majestic because of their beautiful fur, and I love cheetahs because are extremely fast.

That’s all, sorry for the extension I hope you like it =)

My favourite movie ever!

Hi class!

I’m very happy to talk about movies. Cine and movies are very important for me because since I was little I was always related with this. The reason of that is my mother, she is a cinephile. At home we have a lot of movies, in all formats VHS, DVDs, Blu-ray, etc. I think probably my mother has around one thousand movies of all kinds. That’s why I love to watch movies at home.

If you ask me which is my favourite, I’ll  say Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction”. I just love this movie, the actors are magnificent, the dialogues, the black humor, music, everything! It’s just perfect. The cast of this movie is amazing, rarely seen a cast as good as this: John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel, Bruce Willis among others. All of them perform wonderful performances. Probably all my life I've seen this movie about fifteen times and everytime I see it I feel the same that I felt the first time I saw it and that’s one of the reasons I love Pulp Fiction.

Would you recommend it? ABSOLUTLY!!! If you have not seen it yet, please go to watch it right now! =)

Mental health: Is Chile a depressed country?

Hi class!

Today I’m posting a summary from an article that I found in Santiago Times. I found this article very interesting for us as psychologists because we have to know what’s going on with mental health in our country.

Chile is one of the least happy OECD nations, according to an index related with quality of life made by OECD, this is a very critical index. A research lead by Universidad de Concepción shows that “around one in tree Chileans will suffer from one form or another of psychiatric problem at some point in their lifetime.”

One of the effects of this problem is that depression reduces years in life because of the illness, this is measured by a metric “disability adjusted life years (DALYS)” this metric considers medical cost. Depression also costs a lot of money to the state. The good news is that now Chile is taking mental health like one of their priorities, and public policies are in that direction, for example the inclusion of depression on AUGE.

If this matter is so important, what can be done? The research by Universidad de Concepción shows that a big part of de psychiatric disorders are developed in adolescence and childhood, for that reason is very important to prevent depression on kids.

Are Chileans more depressed than others? There are a lot of factors involved in mental disorders, considering family history, genes, environment, personality and adverse life events.
